RIDER PhD Student Alican Karaer works with National UAS to experiment with drones for traffic safety applications
Drones and Traffic Safety
In this recent test, tethered drones were flown over busy intersections to observe traffic patterns. In real-time, the drones provided footage of the scene below, and a machine learning algorithm identified and labeled the vehicles as they passed by. At lower elevations, the drone was even capable of identifying a person. Although this work is still in development it has some very promising applications.
