LABORATORY OF ADVANCED OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND RESILIENCE APPLICATIONS

LAORA focuses on the development of innovative decision support systems that can assist stakeholders with addressing challenging decision problems related to topics including, but not limited to, supply chain management, intelligent manufacturing, logistics and transportation, hazard preparedness and response, infrastructure resilience, connected and automated vehicles, resource allocation, freight terminal design and operations, energy efficiency, healthcare operations, international trade, safety, and liner shipping.

LAORA offers suitable solution approaches that may include the following:

(1) simulation models – simulation models are generally appropriate for what-if analysis of a pre-defined set of scenarios

(2) exact optimization methods – exact optimization methods are able to solve a given decision problem to global optimality and provide the best possible solution

(3) approximate optimization methods – approximate optimization methods are able to provide good-quality solutions in a reasonable computational time.
