I am recruiting graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to join my research group in the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department at Florida State University (FSU) beginning as early as Spring or Fall 2025. Funding is available for multiple years, contingent upon the performance. Benefits (like family health insurance) will be provided in addition to a competitive salary.
Projects
My group currently has multiple research projects funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Florida Department of Environmental Protection, National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on the broad area of water resources and hydrology. The selected candidates will focus on modeling surface water quality and compound flood events under climate change in a range of terrestrial and coastal watersheds via hydrodynamic models. Given that my team works closely with various institutes (academic, government agencies, national labs etc.), there will be several opportunities for collaboration with other universities, national labs and government agencies. The selected candidates will present the findings in peer-reviewed articles and conferences. The postdocs are expected to contribute to student mentoring and assist in writing research grants.
Required qualifications and skills
- An appropriate degree in engineering (civil, agricultural, water resources or environmental), sciences (hydrology, environmental or geography) or any closely related field
- Understanding of physical processes related to surface water quality and/or compound floods in various watersheds under climate change
- Strong computer programming (R, MATLAB or Python) as well as analytical and quantitative skills
- Watershed, hydrologic and/or hydrodynamic modeling as well as stochastic, statistical, time series and geospatial analyses
- Independency, communication, presentation (oral and written), fast learning and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
Highly motivated applicants should contact Dr. Ebrahim Ahmadisharaf (eahmadisharaf@eng.famu.fsu.edu) with their CV, English test scores (for international students) and a brief statement describing how their interests can contribute to the research topics.
Self-Funded Students & Postdocs
Students with their own financial support, such as international students supported by their governments or domestic students with NSF's GRFP, who are interested in my research areas, are encouraged to contact me (eahmadisharaf@eng.famu.fsu.edu) to discuss potential research projects.
